Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Interpreter to join our team at Tufts Medical Center. You will interpret spoken language and culture between patients and healthcare providers, facilitating effective communication and promoting patient safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret spoken language and culture between patients and healthcare providers
  • Participate in family meetings with social workers to assist with completing forms and obtaining financial aid
  • Contact non-English speaking patients to obtain consent signatures and explain procedures
  • Translate correspondence, brochures, and documents from English into the target language
  • Work cooperatively with healthcare teams to create a system of quality healthcare
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Medical Interpreter Certification from an accredited college or university
  • One year of relevant interpreting experience
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in both languages
Preferred Qualifications
  • National Certification for Medical Interpreters
  • Three years of relevant experience
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged standing and walking
  • Regularly lifts and/or moves 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds
  • Frequently requires reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing stairs
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to provide effective and clear interpretation and communication
  • Advanced knowledge in areas of interpreting techniques and medical terminology
  • High degree of courtesy and tact required in regular contacts with patients and their families
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
