Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodial Floater to join our team at Columbia Public Schools. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional custodial services to our students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform regular custodial duties in assigned areas or buildings, ensuring a clean and safe environment for all.
  • Project a positive image of the school district by providing excellent customer service and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Accept and follow verbal or written instructions from the head custodian or supervisor, demonstrating a strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Provide support for curricular and extracurricular events and activities, ensuring that facilities are clean and ready for use.
  • Maintain inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies and equipment, restocking as needed and providing usage data to the head custodian or supervisor.
  • Clean and preserve designated spaces, equipment, furniture, and other assets, adhering to district standards and protocols.
  • Maintain building security by opening and closing buildings each school day and during special events, as directed.
  • Be available for emergency clean-up or maintenance outside of regular work hours, demonstrating a commitment to the district's mission and vision.
Requirements
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions related to work assignments.
  • Knowledge of safe use of supplies and equipment.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, building cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a cooperative and positive relationship with other people.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Professional and friendly demeanor, with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.
ADA Requirements
  • Read and write in the English language.
  • Interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
  • Write routine reports and memos.
  • Respond to requests from staff members.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk and hear.
  • Frequently reach, climb, bend, squat, stoop, and kneel.
  • Continuously use hand strength to grasp and use tools and climb ladders.
  • Frequently lift or move 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 90 pounds.
  • Frequently push or pull items such as desks, tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines.
Attendance and Conditions
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential duty of this position.
  • Regularly work indoors and occasionally work outdoors.
  • Work near or with moving mechanical equipment.
  • Occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Noise level of the work environment is usually moderate but can occasionally be loud.
