Job Summary

UMMS Providers/Physicians is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join our Vascular Thoracic Surgery team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the delivery of exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Responsibilities
    • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services to critically ill patients.
    • Obtain medical histories, examine patients, round daily, order and interpret tests, make initial diagnoses, and order necessary treatments.
    • Communicate effectively with attending physicians, other medical teams, team members, and patients and their families.
    • Initiate appropriate referrals and specialty consultations or other agency involvement as needed.
    • Perform invasive procedures such as Central, Arterial, Hemodialysis, Pulmonary Artery Catheter line, insertion / pulling chest tubes, Thoracentesis, removal of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump.
    • May first assist in the operating room when necessary.
    • Collaborate with attending physicians and clinicians regarding admission, discharge, and transfer decisions.
  • Quality Assurance and Patient Care
    • Provide optimal quality of patient care while following safety guidelines.
    • Maintain a procedure complication rate less than the national average.
    • Contribute to cohesive group relations; use open communication to resolve problems in and between departments.
    • Demonstrate commitment to professional department and organizational core values.
  • Qualifications
    • PAs: Bachelor's degree, graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program, and certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician's Assistants are required. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians.
    • NPs: Bachelor's degree, RN experience, and completion of Acute Nurse Practitioner degree. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing.
    • One year of vascular or thoracic surgical experience is preferred.
    • Credentialing must be obtained from UMMS Providers/Physicians Medical Staff Office and maintenance of BLS /ACLS certification is required. ATLS certification preferred.
    • Salary is commensurate with clinical experience.
