Position Overview

Junior Systems Administrator

We are seeking a motivated Junior Systems Administrator to become a vital part of a dynamic agile team utilizing the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology. This role is essential in supporting a sophisticated and fast-paced program. The successful candidate will engage in daily system administration and operational support tasks within a complex network environment characterized by geographically dispersed systems. The focus will be on the ongoing maintenance and management of existing computing and network systems across various locations, particularly emphasizing the establishment and upkeep of remote sites.

Security Clearance Requirements:

Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and hold a TS/SCI Security Clearance with an appropriate Polygraph.

Responsibilities

The individual selected for this role will be tasked with overseeing infrastructure systems, applications, and processes, ensuring that all issues are promptly identified, tracked, and resolved. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing IT Help Desk inquiries via calls and emails, ensuring professional and timely interactions.
  • Utilizing enterprise monitoring tools to detect alarms triggered within the environments.
  • Collaborating with senior technicians to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software issues, including network connectivity challenges.
  • Providing technical support to associated workgroups in alignment with overlapping projects, fostering positive inter-departmental relationships.
  • Communicating with users regarding system outages and publishing relevant status updates as necessary.
  • Proactively reaching out to customers when infrastructure processes are delayed or may hinder their business functions.
  • Executing the management process for information assurance vulnerability alerts (IAVAs) and conducting system security scans in accordance with established System Security Plans.
  • Initiating IAVA responses and system security scans, completing remediation efforts, and applying IAVA patches and security updates across various IT and network systems.
  • Contributing to the creation and ongoing maintenance of documentation to ensure clear and accurate information is available for incident resolution.
  • Supporting the implementation of IT enhancements and participating in project work.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience in providing user assistance in an IT or similar customer service role.
  • Experience in documenting technical processes and providing information for them.
  • Familiarity with Data Center design and configuration (e.g., rack and stack, power, placement).
  • Experience with complex IT systems and equipment (e.g., Network Switches, Routers, LANs, Windows/Linux operating systems, VMware).
  • Knowledge of IT system optimization, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to respond quickly to customer inquiries with clear and comprehensive status reports.
  • Commitment to best practices, including compliance with maintenance windows and change control procedures.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Independent thinker capable of working autonomously as well as collaboratively.
  • Willingness to respond to emergency system administration and maintenance issues on an as-needed basis.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to local program locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS degree in a technical field with at least 4 years of relevant experience; additional experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Familiarity with security standards, software architectures, and network security technologies.
  • Experience in a software configuration management and development environment.
  • Experience working within an Agile Development Environment or on an Agile Team.
