Overview:
We are in search of a meticulous, organized, and empathetic individual to become a part of our team as a part-time Legal Administrative Assistant. This position encompasses a blend of paralegal and administrative responsibilities, aiding our legal professionals and ensuring efficient office operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Administrative Duties (60-70% of role):
- Handle incoming calls, emails, and other forms of correspondence
- Maintain and manage court schedules
- Organize and oversee digital filing systems
- Supervise office equipment and inventory
- Welcome and assist clients, vendors, and visitors
- Provide general office assistance as required
Paralegal Responsibilities (30-40% of role):
- Review, format, cite check, and submit legal documents
- Prepare exhibits, affidavits, and supplementary documents
- Organize and maintain digital case files and e-discovery systems
- Assist with e-discovery tasks, including document review and production
- Communicate with clients, courts, and other legal professionals as necessary
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred; Associate's degree required
- Paralegal certification or relevant legal experience (including familiarity with e-discovery databases and legal research tools) is advantageous
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel
- Skilled in Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities
- Strong work ethic and professionalism
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information
- Capability to work with clients and legal professionals from diverse backgrounds
- Commitment to the firm's civil rights and social justice goals
- Attention to detail and precision in work
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Work Schedule: Part-time, approximately 12-15 hours per week. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a legal setting while utilizing both administrative and paralegal skills. There may be potential for full-time hours and increased paralegal responsibilities based on the firm's evolving legal practice.
Compensation and Benefits: The part-time role offers an hourly wage, commensurate with relevant experience. Benefits for part-time employees include paid holidays, annual leave, and sick leave. Should the position transition to full-time, additional benefits (including health insurance) would be available.
