Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Produce Procurement Specialist to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a key member of our produce department, you will be responsible for purchasing and replenishing produce through proper buying procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of produce product knowledge, including production, distribution, seasonal availability, advances, and trends.

Responsibilities

  • Purchasing and Replenishing Produce: Ensure timely and accurate ordering of produce to meet sales demands and maintain inventory turns.
  • Monitor and Act on Open PO Reports: Accurately and promptly act on open purchase orders and credits to minimize delays and optimize inventory management.
  • Inventory Management: Control spoilage and shrink, achieve turn goals, and participate in regular inventory audits to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Quality Control: Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Sales Maximization: Implement effective merchandising strategies to maximize sales potential and drive business growth.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, addressing concerns, and making recommendations on produce products.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the produce team to maintain a clean and sanitary working environment, adhere to safety protocols, and support leadership in conducting inventories.

Requirements

  • 12+ months retail experience
  • Strong basic math skills and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems
  • Familiarity with produce-related merchandising expectations and ability to educate team members on product knowledge
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency, meeting deadlines and maintaining productivity

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • In an 8-hour workday: standing/walking 6-8 hours
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • Work requires bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
  • Exposure to temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and FDA-approved cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
