Executive Director, External Engagement

The Senior Vice President, Grassroots Mobilization, will lead and manage API's leading edge external mobilization initiative. The goal of the initiative is to enhance and grow a grassroots, grasstops, and coalition network as well as the underlying data infrastructure to advance API's priority advocacy objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities- Lead and manage all API grassroots, grasstops, and related mobilization initiatives.
- Develop effective mobilization campaigns in close coordination with the API Federal and State Government Relations (GR); Communications; Policy, Regulatory and Economic Affairs, and Legal.
- Serve as the organization's main interface, advocate, and educator of the Mobilization program with key stakeholder groups: Executive leadership, the Board of Directors, API member companies, outside partners, and API staff.
- Oversee outside partners to ensure efficient, effective, and integrated operation of grassroots, grasstops, and related mobilization efforts.
- Build and manage effective fit-for-purpose coalitions, either directly or through outside partners.
- Integrate and coordinate internally with API Federal and State Relations; Communications; Policy, Regulatory and Economic Affairs, Legal, and others as necessary.
- Ensure continuous improvement of robust online platforms for mobilization initiatives.
- Manage Get-Out-The-Vote activities and oversee field organizing teams.
- Lead, manage, and develop high-energy, self-motivated staff to implement API's external mobilization program.
The Senior Vice President, Grassroots Mobilization, will serve as a core participant on the GR Leadership Team. In order to successfully lead the Mobilization Team, the VP will need to partner across API's Leadership Team to anticipate, develop, and execute effective campaigns. A strong integrated working relationship with Legal is essential. In addition, the VP must work collaboratively across the membership to ensure effective advocacy on the industry's behalf.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in political science or relevant discipline or equivalent experience required.
- 15+ years' work experience with minimum of 10 years of advocacy experience with a proven track record of success and particular emphasis in data and field-based management of political/grassroots campaigns - experience with both issue and candidate campaigns a plus.
- Minimum of 6+ years management experience with strong leadership skills in the development of people and overseeing resources.
- Requires excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills and an ability to function effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Possess a high level of personal integrity and leadership development potential.
Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer. Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc. Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines. Transport items and equipment up to 25 lbs. on occasion.
Travel RequirementsUp to 25%.
