Position Title: Estimator | Interior General Contractor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Estimator is accountable for the timely preparation and management of comprehensive estimates for general contracting endeavors, particularly for larger and intricate projects within a supermarket or commercial retail environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Estimator will:

  • Report directly to the Chief Estimator to ensure the delivery of high-quality bids while adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Oversee a diverse range of projects, including both general contracting and in-house initiatives, encompassing large, small, and complex undertakings.
  • Collaborate closely with fellow Estimators, Assistant Estimators, and Project Coordinators, contributing valuable insights throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct takeoffs and perform quantity analyses for both in-house and subcontractor trades.
  • Participate in site walkthroughs with clients, subcontractors, and team members to assess project requirements.
  • Evaluate subcontractor prequalifications to identify their strengths and weaknesses, ensuring the selection of quality subcontractors.
  • Secure appropriately qualified subcontractor coverage for each trade involved.
  • Thoroughly analyze all bid requirements to ensure compliance with deadlines.
  • Review and interpret bid documents to ascertain the scope of work required.
  • Highlight relevant drawings and execute necessary take-offs for pertinent trades.
  • Create a Clarification Sheet that outlines the scope of work for each trade.
  • Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs) to address any discrepancies in the bid documents.
  • Engage in walkthroughs with clients and subcontractors to evaluate field conditions.
  • Discuss the scope of work with subcontractors to ensure clarity and understanding.
  • Analyze subcontractor proposals to verify their scope of work.
  • Prepare and finalize bids for review by the Chief Estimator.
  • Consolidate leveling sheets based on clarifications received.
  • Facilitate buyout meetings with construction teams to discuss bids upon job award.
  • Negotiate final contract prices with subcontractors as necessary, ensuring all Letters of Award are executed prior to project commencement.
  • Participate in kickoff and closeout meetings, providing accurate reports on general conditions and man-hours.
  • Develop and maintain various logs, including Bid Logs, Databases, Unit Costs, and Equipment & Material records.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5+ years of estimating experience in retail construction is preferred.
  • A degree in Architecture or Engineering is preferred.
  • Familiarity with open store renovations, new fit-out projects, and site work is essential.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated competencies in analytical thinking, problem-solving, planning/organizing, and dependability are necessary for success in this role.
