The Estimator is accountable for efficiently preparing comprehensive estimates for general contracting endeavors, particularly focusing on larger and intricate projects within the supermarket and commercial retail sectors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Estimator plays a crucial role in the bidding process, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company standards:

  • Reports directly to the Chief Estimator to guarantee the production of high-quality bids while adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Manages a diverse range of projects, encompassing both large-scale and complex undertakings.
  • Collaborates closely with fellow Estimators, Assistant Estimators, and Project Coordinators, contributing valuable insights throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conducts takeoffs and performs quantity analyses for both in-house and subcontractor trades.
  • Participates in site walkthroughs with clients, subcontractors, and team members to assess project requirements.
  • Evaluates subcontractor prequalifications, identifying strengths and weaknesses to ensure the selection of quality subcontractors.
  • Secures appropriately qualified subcontractor coverage for each trade involved.
  • Thoroughly analyzes bid requirements to ensure compliance with deadlines.
  • Reviews and interprets bid documents to define the scope of work accurately.
  • Highlights relevant drawings and executes necessary take-offs for pertinent trades.
  • Creates a Clarification Sheet to delineate each trade's scope of work.
  • Prepares Requests for Information (RFIs) to address any discrepancies in bid documents.
  • Engages in site walkthroughs with clients and subcontractors to ascertain field conditions.
  • Discusses project scope with subcontractors to ensure mutual understanding.
  • Analyzes subcontractor proposals to validate their scope of work.
  • Prepares and finalizes bids for review by the Chief Estimator.
  • Completes leveling sheets based on clarifications received.
  • Facilitates buyout meetings with construction teams to discuss bids upon job award.
  • Negotiates final contract prices with subcontractors as necessary, ensuring all Letters of Award are executed prior to project commencement.
  • Participates in kickoff and closeout meetings, providing accurate reports on general conditions and man-hours.
  • Develops and maintains essential logs, including Bid Logs, Databases, Unit Costs, and Equipment & Material records.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5+ years of estimating experience in retail construction is preferred.
  • A degree in Architecture or Engineering is preferred.
  • Familiarity with open store renovations, new fit-out projects, and site work is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated competencies in analytical thinking, problem-solving, planning/organizing, and dependability are required.
