SUMMARY

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in providing expert custodial and light maintenance services for Bates Technical College. Daily responsibilities may be carried out independently or collaboratively to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of designated facilities. More complex tasks may be executed under the guidance of senior custodial staff or management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Exhibit a positive attitude and professionalism to foster effective teamwork among colleagues.
  • Perform a variety of tasks both independently and as part of a team, including:
  • Responding to work requests and documenting actions taken.
  • Maintaining and repairing janitorial equipment such as vacuum cleaners and floor scrubbers.
  • Painting small areas as directed.
  • Conducting rounds to secure facilities by locking doors, closing windows, and turning off lights.
  • Arranging furniture and equipment for events.
  • Cleaning outdoor areas, including sidewalks and gardens.
  • Participating in training to enhance knowledge of safety and equipment use.
  • Managing inventory and requisitioning supplies as needed.
  • Removing waste from designated areas.
  • Performing thorough cleaning of floors, carpets, and restrooms.
  • Reporting maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Coordinating setups for college events and office relocations as assigned.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Responding to emergencies and adverse weather conditions as part of essential personnel duties.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Support the Facilities & Operations team by performing various roles as needed.
  • Represent the department positively through quality service.
  • Stay informed about policies and procedures and report safety hazards promptly.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in college committees as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of eighth grade education.
  • Two years of relevant experience in custodial or maintenance roles.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to four years of experience in custodial services.
  • Experience in a lead custodial role.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Background checks will be conducted post-offer of employment.
  • This position is part of a bargaining unit.
  • Uniform and protective gear must be worn as required.
  • Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and overtime.
