POSITION: Major Gifts Officer

PAFA is in search of a dynamic and seasoned fundraising professional with a proven history of successfully securing major contributions ($25,000+) and overseeing leadership annual giving initiatives ($1,500+). Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, the Major Gifts Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing PAFA's philanthropic revenue streams. This position requires close collaboration with the Development Department, the President & CEO, and various organizational stakeholders to achieve established objectives.

The Major Gifts Officer will assist senior leadership and volunteers in their fundraising endeavors, while also driving strategies to broaden the prospect pipeline. This role involves actively managing a designated portfolio of potential donors, employing a moves management approach to qualify, engage, solicit new donors, and maintain and enhance support from existing contributors. Collaboration with colleagues is essential to develop tailored strategies and solicitation materials that align with annual operational goals and special initiatives, including exhibitions, educational programs, endowment funds, and capital projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, formulate and execute a comprehensive plan to expand the leadership and major gifts program. This plan will encompass strategic objectives and activities aimed at increasing and diversifying philanthropic contributions from individuals, including planned giving opportunities.

  • Maintain an active personal portfolio of individual donors and prospects (capable of contributing $25,000 and above), achieving monthly targets for meaningful interactions such as meetings, solicitations, and other engagements that strengthen relationships with PAFA;
  • Identify and qualify new prospects as assigned, meet monthly performance metrics, and navigate the donor lifecycle in collaboration with the Director of Development Operations to uncover prospect pools and opportunities;
  • Develop and implement strategies for major gift prospects, creating customized solicitation materials;
  • Support the President & CEO, Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders in their fundraising efforts alongside the Chief Development Officer;
    Manage leadership giving programs (such as the Peale Circle and Brodsky Center Advisory Council) including solicitation and renewal processes, benefit activation, event oversight, and donor stewardship. Act as the primary liaison for the Peale Circle, ensuring donors remain informed and engaged with the organization through consistent communication;
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Membership & Annual Giving and the Manager of Development Events to enhance engagement pathways for event participants and members, building the individual giving pipeline.
  • Utilize Raiser's Edge NXT to monitor moves management, manage relationships, track event attendance, maintain prospect information, and generate reports in accordance with departmental practices and policies;
  • Stay informed about industry best practices, trends, and ethical standards;
  • Oversee and collaborate with colleagues to ensure proper acknowledgment and recognition for donors, ensuring that reports, regular communications, stewardship activities, and recognition events are executed effectively;
  • Serve as a knowledgeable representative for PAFA;
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three to five years of development experience with a solid understanding of best practices
  • A passion for the arts and a genuine commitment to advancing PAFA's mission to celebrate the transformative power of art and creativity
  • A motivated and strategic fundraiser with a history of building meaningful relationships with donors and identifying new revenue opportunities

  • A strategic thinker who maintains a broad perspective while being detail-oriented enough to develop the necessary components to achieve objectives
  • Exceptional professionalism, tact, and poise, with the ability to engage with diverse constituencies including staff, faculty, students, and volunteer leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and emotional intelligence
  • Familiarity with the philanthropic landscape in Philadelphia, planned giving, and individual giving vehicles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Expertise in Raiser's Edge NXT software (or similar systems) is required
  • Willingness to work some evening and weekend events.
