Substance Abuse Counselor

Eliot Community Human Services is seeking a skilled Substance Abuse Counselor to join our Behavioral Health Division. As a key member of our team, you will work with adults with psychiatric disabilities, providing evidence-based services and promoting rehabilitation and hope.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing and facilitating dual diagnosis groups, motivational interviewing, harm reduction techniques, 12 step programs, and detoxification facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring that individuals are treated with dignity and respect, and that services are culturally competent, strengths-based, and recovery-focused.
Key responsibilities include:
- Empowering individuals to exercise control over their lives, including daily routines and treatment plans
- Assisting individuals in being fully integrated in their communities, through support with community resources and membership
- Ensuring individuals are free from neglect and abuse, and reporting concerns to supervisors and relevant authorities
- Participating in supervision, staff meetings, in-services, and trainings as required
Qualifications include a LADC I or II, CADC I or II, or equivalent certification. Experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses is preferred.
