Position Overview:
The Culinary Operations Manager oversees the daily management of one or more dining facilities within University Housing.

These units operate at various hours, providing meals from breakfast through late-night service, accommodating a wide range of dining needs.

This role is part of a managerial team that emphasizes collaboration, customer satisfaction, and culinary excellence.

Responsibilities include budget management, staff allocation, and procurement of food and supplies.

The manager determines meal preparation quantities, supply orders, staffing needs, and employee scheduling.

This position is responsible for menu planning, service standards, food safety protocols, purchasing, staff training, personnel management, and all related tasks for the assigned units.

Compliance with obtaining a Food Handler Permit and OLCC Service Permit is required; the manager must also be flexible with scheduling, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work conditions and physical demands align with those typical in the food service industry, including potential hazards such as slippery surfaces, extreme temperatures, heavy lifting, and prolonged standing.

The Culinary Operations Manager supervises approximately 40 classified staff and 100 student employees, reporting to an Assistant Director of Dining in Retail, Residential, or Catering Operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of three years of full-time experience as a Manager, Chef, or Sous Chef in a large-scale food service operation, such as a restaurant, hotel, catering service, or institutional setting.

At least three years of experience in supervising or leading others, including assigning and evaluating work and addressing disciplinary matters.
Professional Competencies:
Strong culinary skills and a comprehensive understanding of commercial kitchen operations.

Commitment to effectively engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment.

Ability to prepare reports, budgets, and documents, as well as to comprehend and communicate policies, procedures, and safety information.
Preferred Qualifications:
A culinary degree from a recognized two or four-year program.
A bachelor's degree.
Experience with computerized food service management systems and point-of-sale systems.
Experience managing a unionized food service workforce.
Experience in a college or university food service setting.
