Position Overview

If you have a passion for the legal field, consider a role as a Paralegal Specialist in the Army National Guard. In this capacity, you will provide essential support to judges, military attorneys, and unit leaders in various legal matters and judicial processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare legal documentation for courts-martial and other military justice proceedings.
  • Assist with legal affairs, including power of attorney, wills, and separation decrees.

Essential Skills
  • Ability to oversee personnel in a command structure.
  • Provide expert guidance to junior staff.
  • Maintain legal and administrative libraries.
  • Ensure accuracy in legal documentation and processes.

Your training will equip you to conduct witness interviews, research legal precedents and Army regulations, manage legal claims and appeals, and compile records for hearings, investigations, and courts-martial.

By serving in the Army National Guard, you are setting the stage for a fulfilling civilian career. In the civilian sector, Paralegal Specialists are often known as legal assistants, clerks, or court recorders, and they find opportunities in private law firms, banks, insurance companies, government agencies, and various levels of courts.

Compensation and Training
Instead of incurring costs to acquire these skills, you will receive compensation while you learn. In the Army National Guard, you will gain valuable job skills while earning a regular salary and qualifying for educational assistance.

Training for a Paralegal Specialist includes 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental Soldiering skills, followed by 10 weeks of Advanced Individual Training and practical instruction.

Requirements
  • Enlistment in the Army National Guard.
  • Must be at least a junior in high school or possess a high school diploma or GED.

  • Must meet citizenship criteria.
