Job Summary:

Cyalume Technologies, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled chemist to contribute to the company's growth by providing synthetic support for collaborative projects in a dynamic lab setting. The ideal candidate will have a solid background and skillset in synthetic organic chemistry, as well as familiarity with formulation and process development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, conduct, and optimize the synthesis, purification, and characterization of small organic molecules.
  • Develop and test novel formulations, including initial scale-up for new formulations.
  • Assist in the development of testing procedures for new formulations and devices.
  • Operate and maintain various laboratory instruments, including light meters, spectrometers, HPLC, and GC.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and provide written or oral reports and research summaries as required.
  • Collaborate with other scientists and engineers to develop comprehensive solutions.
  • Engage with cross-functional colleagues as necessary to progress projects through the stage gate process.
  • Participate in intellectual property creation.

Requirements:

  • MS/MA in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 5 years of experience or Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in synthesis of small organic molecules from gram to kilo scale, with a strong background in organometallic and coupling chemistry.
  • Strong awareness of chemical hazards and commitment to a culture of safety.
  • Proven scientific and technical ability to design and execute synthetic route design, product purification, optimization of chemistry, and analysis of data.
  • Broad experience in purification techniques, including recrystallization and chromatography.
  • Motivated and self-driven individual with the ability to work independently and support team and corporate objectives within expected timelines.
  • Proficiency in various software, including MS Office, ChemDraw, Reaxys, SciFinder, or equivalent.
