Job Overview:
This role supports the mission of the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The Social Media Content Specialist will be responsible for crafting, researching, and coordinating engaging content for various social media platforms that highlight significant NSF activities and events.

The Specialist will collaborate with the social media team and report directly to the Chief of Creative Services.

Key Responsibilities:
Creating, writing, and coordinating content while sourcing multimedia assets for NSF social media accounts, including:

- Coverage of events, announcements, and observances
- Drafting speeches
- Highlighting events featuring senior executives and prominent agency content

Formulating, drafting, and implementing digital engagement strategies to address complex scientific research topics, enhancing the agency's mission.
Producing social media content that articulates, interprets, and clarifies significant, intricate, and potentially contentious NSF science programs and research findings.
Assisting in the evaluation of agency-wide external digital engagement initiatives, projects, or studies, and compiling evaluation results into suitable report formats.
Providing expertise in assessing public attitudes and actions, utilizing findings to enhance digital engagement strategies and deliverables.
Collaborating with scientists and OLPA personnel in the preparation and review of social media content.
Gathering, developing, and verifying the accuracy of social media content with subject-matter experts, program officials, and other relevant contacts.
Offering editing and proofreading support throughout all stages of social media content development.
Coordinating with external agencies' social media managers for NSF events.
Participating in staff planning or event management meetings to align content ahead of events.
Representing the social media team in meetings.
Working with metrics analysts to generate regular reports on account engagement and success.
Ensuring that all NSF campaigns are accurately represented across platforms.
Providing support for all NSF social media accounts as required.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
In-depth understanding of social media strategies and principles
Exceptional editing and writing capabilities
Ability to translate scientific information into accessible language for diverse audiences
Bachelor's degree
A minimum of 6 years of experience in social media management, particularly in scientific or technical fields

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience collaborating with scientists or in academic settings
Familiarity with federal plain language and AP style guidelines

Work Environment:
This position is hybrid, requiring onsite presence two days a week.
Work is conducted in a collaborative environment.
May involve evening and weekend coverage for live events and conferences.
