Job Overview

The City of Avondale is seeking a Lead Building Plans Analyst within the Development Services Department. This position is a full-time, FLSA exempt role that comes with a comprehensive benefits package.

Role Responsibilities

The Lead Building Plans Analyst is responsible for the meticulous examination and evaluation of building plans for various types of projects, including commercial, multi-family, industrial, and residential developments. This role requires a high degree of independence and efficiency in managing the plan review process from inception to completion. The analyst will also provide mentorship and oversight to junior plans examiners and technical staff as needed.

This position entails:
  • Conducting thorough reviews of complex construction projects.
  • Leading preconstruction meetings with stakeholders such as contractors, design professionals, and property owners.
  • Ensuring compliance with the City’s adopted building codes throughout the review process.
  • Coordinating construction projects and compiling necessary statistical data.
  • Delivering training and guidance to plans examiners and technical staff.

Key Functions

The Lead Building Plans Analyst will:
  • Perform technical evaluations of construction documents and specifications.
  • Analyze design calculations and discuss technical requirements with relevant parties.
  • Assist permit technicians and provide information on building codes and permitting processes.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure code compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of plan review activities.
  • Recommend improvements to existing codes and procedures.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:
  • An Associate's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in complex construction projects.
  • Certifications from the International Code Council in Building Plans Examiner and Residential Plans Examiner.
  • A valid Arizona Driver's License.
