About the Position

The Research Foundation for SUNY at Binghamton University is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist or Clinical Fellow-SLP to join our team at the Institute for Child Development. As a key member of our dynamic team, you will play a vital role in providing center-based services to students enrolled in our program by school districts and county health departments throughout the Southern Tier of New York.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations to identify individual needs and develop personalized plans.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to coordinate, train, and supervise educational staff in implementing speech and language programs.
  • Supervise student trainees and interns to ensure effective learning and skill development.
  • Formulate, write, and implement specific speech and language goals included in Individual Education Plans.
  • Coordinate with staff to create comprehensive language programs consistent with our philosophy of total integration of services.
  • Monitor and evaluate child behavior and performance, modifying speech and language programs as required.
  • Prepare written reports and maintain frequent contact with parents or guardians of children in oral and written form regarding child progress.
  • Participate in multiple weekly staff meetings and provide support in vivo supervision and performance feedback to staff and undergraduate practicum students.
  • Help promote safety, health, nutrition, and social development during all activities.
  • Actively collaborate with staff at multiple levels, including supervisees, colleagues from other disciplines, and supervisors.
  • Prepare daily session notes, monthly billing paperwork, and associated service delivery documentation.
Expectations
  • Provide direct child instruction and care for 5-days a week as determined by the facility calendar.
  • Be available for ad hoc meetings and consultation during work hours as specified by the Director of Educational & Direct Care Services.
  • Participate in all habilitative, self-help, and emotional development programs as requested.
  • Support children during all classroom activities and transitions between learning spaces.
  • Maintain appropriate cleanliness, organization, and adaptation of learning spaces throughout the Institute for Child Development.
  • Maintain effective professional relationships and work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Motivate staff and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Assist all staff in stimulating language use in all aspects of the child's day.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, time management, and supervisory decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development, above and beyond that required for licenses/credentials.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in analytical methods.
Requirements
  • Licensed or license-eligible in New York State as a Speech-Language Pathologist preferred. Clinical Fellowship applicants are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be fluent and easily understood in English with very good articulation to accommodate the communication and comprehension needs of the children served.
  • Must be able to proficiently read, write, and comprehend written text and communicate in written form in English as the primary means of understanding and implementing child education plans and providing required documentation.
  • Must have normative vision, hearing, strength, and agility in order to meet routine and emergency needs and safety of children and fellow staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, particularly children ages 3-11 for a minimum of one year.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practice, which subsumes experience in data collection, summary, and evaluation methods, is desirable.
  • Prior training in the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).
Organizational Policies
  • Must be able to demonstrate, via written exam in English, competency on Institute for Child Development policies and procedures as presented in staff manuals.
  • Exams must be passed, (proficiency 90%), within the first month of employment. Failure to do so results in immediate probation. If the exam is not passed within three attempts, employment may be terminated.

The Institute for Child Development physical facilities are utilized by individuals from the University and the community; therefore, we cannot guarantee that areas within ICD are allergen free.

All staff members are required to use vinyl gloves to meet required safety and hygiene standards where applicable.

All staff members will need to comply with hand-washing/hand-sanitizing protocols, where posted, as part of general operating procedures.
