Empower Young Minds to Tackle Global Challenges

Role: After School STEM Program Facilitator

Reports to: Program Supervisor

Classification: Paid, Part-Time, 5-8 hours/week

About Girlstart

Established in 1997, Girlstart is dedicated to fostering girls' enthusiasm and participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through innovative, recognized informal education initiatives. Our year-round offerings motivate girls to make a difference in the world. These initiatives encompass after school programs, week-long summer camps, community STEM activities, and an annual conference for girls.

Role Description

Girlstart is on the lookout for several After School STEM Program Facilitators (known as STEM CREW -- Creative, Resourceful, Empowered Workforce) to lead engaging, hands-on, STEM-centered after school programs in North Texas, particularly within local school districts. Our after school sessions occur weekly for an hour (with variations between 1-1.5 hours) immediately following the school day. The aim of our program is to offer 20-25 girls an enjoyable, complimentary STEM enrichment experience that boosts their confidence and encourages them to pursue higher education and explore broader career paths. This role presents a fulfilling opportunity to work directly with girls in grades 4-5, empowering them through STEM activities.

Program facilitators will receive training from program supervisors. North Texas facilitators will also coordinate with the North Texas Senior Program Supervisor regarding after school clubs, office hours, and any additional responsibilities.

Commitment & Schedule

We prefer facilitators to be available two afternoons a week (Monday through Thursday, with limited options on Friday) to lead two programs. Potential candidates should be available around 2 pm on program days; sessions typically run from 3:00-4:00 pm at designated elementary schools.

The commitment for the After School Program Facilitator role is 5-8 hours per week. Leading two after school programs requires approximately a 6-hour weekly commitment, which includes lesson preparation, travel to the location, conducting the activity, and cleanup. In addition to the 6 hours, facilitators are encouraged to allocate 1-2 office hours for practice, material preparation, and inquiries regarding activities or classroom management. Office hours are held once a week at Girlstart's North Texas office.

Ongoing mandatory training will be provided throughout the duration of the position.
