Department Overview

The Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute leverages the academic resources of the George Washington University and the assets of the nation's capital to conduct pioneering research focused on Latino and immigrant communities.

Research conducted by the Institute addresses pressing issues faced by Latinos in the United States and informs the development of the Institute's student leadership initiatives.

Moreover, the Institute collaborates with various partners to translate empirical research on immigrant well-being for public and policy audiences beyond academia.


Role Summary

The Institute is seeking a graduate student with relevant academic or professional experience in public affairs, communications, or digital media to support the production and promotion of the Institute's initiatives.


Key Responsibilities
  • Create and disseminate public-facing materials, including press releases, newsletters, and other written communications.
  • Review and enhance program language featured on the Institute's website and in written communications.
  • Assist in managing the Institute's social media presence and digital branding.
  • Collaborate with Cisneros Scholars to develop content for various platforms, including blogs, stories, press releases, and videos.
  • Work with Institute staff to promote, document, and execute events and programming.
  • Support the Communications Manager in brainstorming innovative ways to leverage digital and print media to elevate the Institute's public profile and improve existing practices.
  • Collaborate with Institute leadership to design communication templates for securing institutional, corporate, and individual fundraising support.
  • Additional projects or responsibilities may be assigned based on specific departmental needs.


Candidates should be pursuing graduate studies at GW and possess at least one year of relevant work experience. Strong writing skills are essential.


General Position Description
The student will oversee and/or create marketing and communication strategies and content for departments and/or special events.

Responsibilities may include:

Planning, developing, managing, and executing marketing strategies and campaigns, digital content, design, and/or managing social media accounts. The student will operate with a high degree of discretion while adhering to organizational marketing standards and guidelines. Additional projects or duties may be assigned based on specific departmental requirements.
