Position Overview

The Lead Property Tax Consultant plays a pivotal role in guiding team members through the assessment reviews of Real Estate and/or Business Personal Property for our clients, aiming for optimal tax savings while delivering additional state and local tax advisory services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Employ DMA's proprietary templates and valuation models for property assessment, fixed asset reconciliation, and reclassification to evaluate clients' previous reporting practices for property tax returns, identifying potential exemptions and abatement opportunities for tax savings.
  • Conduct on-site evaluations of client properties (including facilities and operations).
  • Compile reports and analyses that support DMA's stance on exemptions with state and local tax authorities; prepare and submit regular status updates to clients; draft Reports of Findings and other relevant correspondence.
  • Assist leadership in the assessment review process, representing clients during appeals and personal property tax audit hearings with state and local authorities.
  • Manage client accounts within a designated region, ensuring effective communication and timely deliverables.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to junior team members, reviewing their work as necessary.
  • Engage in the recruitment process to attract top talent to the team.
  • Actively participate in business development initiatives, including identifying, scoping, and creating tailored solutions for new and prospective clients, while also exploring opportunities to cross-sell other DMA services.
  • Support the production and invoicing processes.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and market activities within the assigned geographic area.
  • Research and monitor state and local tax developments, including legislation and court rulings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Real Estate, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in property tax, valuation, or accounting is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational, research, and interpersonal skills.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to hear, comprehend, and distinguish various sounds.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer are expected.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary (approximately 20-30%).
