Job Summary

The Medical Lab Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the quality of laboratory results and the proper operation of instrumentation. This position requires moderate complexity laboratory procedures, accurate reporting of results, and adherence to established SOPs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory test procedures in one or more functional sections of the laboratory, including moderate complexity testing.
  • Accurately identify and pre-analytic prepare specimens, complete testing according to established SOPs, and report test results.
  • Assist Medical Technologists with non-testing tasks, including reference test preparation and shipping.
  • Maintain all standards established by laboratory regulatory agencies and assist in the preparation and documentation necessary for successful compliance.
  • Utilize computer software to complete tasks and maintain accurate records.
Requirements
  • Minimum Associate of Science Degree or higher from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical science or a certified military training program meeting CLIA requirements for moderate complexity testing procedures.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Preferred experience in Healthcare or Laboratory setting.
Work Environment

The Medical Lab Assistant will work in an office setting with moderate noise levels and will be required to rotate shifts, including standby, on-call, and overtime. Travel may be expected locally between System locations.

Physical Demands

The position requires bending, sitting, lifting, answering the phone, and computer entry. The incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need and will be required to wear personal protective equipment, including goggles, face shield, and mask, according to CDC guidelines.
