Overview

As a Lead Software Engineer specializing in Functional Safety, you will oversee the complete software development lifecycle, ensuring that all projects align with defined scope, budget, timeline, and quality standards for Panasonic's software offerings. You will guide both on-site and remote development teams in creating innovative features, troubleshooting issues, and developing unit testing frameworks and test cases. Your strong project management capabilities will be essential in planning, monitoring progress, and effectively communicating updates to both internal stakeholders and external clients.

Key Responsibilities

YOUR MISSION:

You will be responsible for the end-to-end software development process focused on Functional Safety, ensuring adherence to project specifications, budgetary constraints, timelines, and quality benchmarks for Panasonic's software products. You will lead and mentor teams, guiding them in feature development, defect resolution, and unit testing.

A DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Facilitate and/or engage in collaborative meetings with Panasonic, suppliers, and clients to conduct design evaluations and monitor project progress, while providing updates on development activities, project timelines, costs, and risk assessments.
  • Synchronize functional safety software development efforts with the Functional Safety manager, software architects, and other engineering teams to analyze requirements and deliver high-quality Functional Safety features for infotainment projects on schedule.
  • Manage software project planning, execution, oversight, launch, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of ISO26262 Automotive Functional Safety standards, methodologies, and tools.
  • Review and assess systems and software functional safety requirements in automotive head units, addressing feasibility and resolving any specification issues in collaboration with systems engineering and/or OEMs.
  • Work closely with the Functional Safety manager to convert system safety requirements into software functional safety specifications, utilizing appropriate tools.
  • Be adept at translating technical reference manuals for Automotive infotainment products into software functional safety interfaces.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate functional safety requirements and develop interfaces with other system modules.
  • Assess new software releases from suppliers to ensure compliance with acceptance criteria.

MUST-HAVES:

  • A four-year degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and a minimum of five years of relevant experience; or at least ten years of comprehensive embedded software development experience in electronic products. A minimum of two years in a leadership role overseeing software engineers within a formal development framework such as Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, or Extreme Programming.
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, and debugging functional safety software in real-time embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with integration frameworks using tools such as Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect, BOUML, or other UML modeling software.
  • Proficient in high-end embedded Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) like Linux and Android.
  • Understanding of Software Configuration Management (SCM) systems.
  • Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies.
  • Expertise in ISO26262 Automotive Functional Safety standards, processes, and tools.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Windows-based databases.
