Objective:

This position is responsible for ensuring customers receive prompt and courteous service, directing them to the appropriate person or area for loading, and maintaining smooth traffic flow within the yard.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers promptly and courteously, providing a positive first impression.
  • Effectively guide customers to the designated employee or loading zone based on their needs.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge and assist customers in locating specific items within the yard.
  • Handle customer returns efficiently and professionally, adhering to established procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring safety for both employees and customers.
  • Exercise vigilance and awareness of surroundings to prevent accidents and promote a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with the Yard Supervisor or Assistant Yard Supervisor to complete assigned tasks effectively.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exceptional customer service skills, with a focus on providing friendly and helpful assistance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, enabling clear and concise interactions with customers.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage assigned tasks while accepting direction from supervisors.
  • Collaborative team player, contributing positively to the overall yard operations.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is essential for effective communication with a diverse customer base.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Clear vision, including close and distant vision, to effectively interact with customers and navigate the yard.
  • Tolerance for moderate to loud noise levels commonly found in a busy lumberyard environment.
  • Occasional exposure to moving machinery and vehicles, requiring caution and awareness.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
  • Regularly perform physical tasks such as reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and crawling.
