The Role

As a key member of the Corporate Services team, reporting to the Manager of Crisis Management and Business Continuity, the Business Continuity Specialist plays a vital role in upholding our business continuity protocols and supporting various business units in their execution. This position offers corporate-wide expertise, guidance, and assistance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the ongoing enhancement and maintenance of the corporate Business Continuity framework and related documentation.
  • Ensure that business continuity processes are user-friendly, effective, and efficient.
  • Manage corporate-wide business continuity data, analyzing statistical and performance metrics to bolster preparedness and response capabilities.
  • Establish, track, and report on objectives and targets related to business continuity.
  • Assist in the development and upkeep of a Business Continuity Management system.
  • Collaborate with business units and corporate departments to conduct annual evaluations of business continuity strategies and readiness.
  • Provide expert guidance in identifying and resolving technical challenges associated with business continuity.
  • Design, maintain, and potentially deliver training sessions on business continuity and organizational resilience throughout the organization.
  • Lead or mentor in the creation and execution of comprehensive continuity tabletop exercises and functional drills for a diverse range of internal stakeholders, including field personnel, corporate departments, and executive leadership.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, provincial/state, and local regulations, as well as professional standards and best practices.
  • Guide, mentor, and support the professional growth of colleagues in business continuity and emergency management.
  • Offer subject matter expertise and potentially spearhead initiatives in response to Business Continuity activations triggered by real-world events or threats, including maintaining critical operations, coordinating dependencies, establishing contingency plans, and overseeing recovery efforts.
Essential Qualifications
  • Certification as a Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) from the Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI) or a Certificate from the Business Continuity Institute (BCI - CBCI).
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a business continuity capacity within the private or public sector.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Experience in crafting and implementing user-centric business continuity programs.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments and completing Business Impact Analyses (BIAs).
  • Strong background in customer service and client relations.
  • Advanced mentoring, coaching, and teaching abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the capacity to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks effectively.
  • Adept at both high-level strategic thinking and detailed task execution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in a business continuity role within the private or public sector.
  • Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP) certification from the Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI).
  • Experience in Crisis Management, Disaster Recovery, Cyber Security, Risk Management, Finance, Emergency Management, or Project Management is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with pipelines and oil/gas facilities.
  • Ability to manage diverse issues in non-traditional work environments.
  • Skill in facilitating discussions and managing conflicts with tact and diplomacy.
  • Experience collaborating closely with emergency services agencies.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to travel across borders with a valid passport.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30% of the time.
  • Availability for on-call and after-hours support as required.
  • Driving a motor vehicle is an essential function of this role, and motor vehicle records will be reviewed post-offer.
