Job Responsibilities:

This role is situated within the Department of Mental Health, Charleston Dorchester Center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Under the guidance of the team leader, this clinician will manage incoming crisis communications and deliver telephonic crisis intervention services, screening, and consultation in a culturally sensitive manner as a support for the 988 Lifeline.
  • Ensure a high-quality response to 988 Lifeline callers, demonstrating cultural competence.
  • Identify issues related to mental health, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use, directing individuals to suitable resources. Utilize assessment data and community resources to provide information and facilitate referrals to services.
  • Maintain knowledge of and adhere to documentation standards.
  • Exhibit an understanding of the significance of collaboration and teamwork within the Center and the broader community.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:

State Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or social sciences along with professional experience in human or social services programs.

Agency Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or another relevant behavioral discipline as recognized by SCDMH.

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with mental health legal principles and practices, methods and principles of clinical counseling, and educational services; substantial knowledge of psychopathology and patient management in psychiatric environments; understanding of basic health and welfare services provided by other agencies; ability to effectively plan, coordinate, and manage complex treatment processes, and the capability to conduct thorough investigations, draw conclusions, and recommend necessary actions.
