OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The main objective of the Regional Veterinary Operations Leader is to guide, cultivate, and oversee veterinary professionals within their designated facilities, ensuring that Banfield effectively attracts, nurtures, engages, and retains veterinarians who provide exceptional care and achieve desired operational metrics. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of excellence and quality service by the veterinary team (DVM, CVT, VA) across their assigned facilities, ensuring that every pet receives uniform care that aligns with our six quality domains (safe, effective, client-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Embody and promote the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within oneself and the team.
  • Act as a quality advocate by effectively communicating and instilling a culture of safety and excellence at the facility level to enhance medical care, client satisfaction, team engagement, and operational performance.
  • Conduct regular facility assessments and quality checks to ensure adherence to industry standards, regulations, and Banfield's quality benchmarks while fostering engagement among veterinary professionals.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop veterinary professionals on the essential skills required for success in their roles, ensuring the delivery of high-quality medical care that meets our six quality domains and supports operational goals.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Veterinary Quality (DVQ) to build a thriving veterinary team through recruitment, referrals, interview assistance, and leading the onboarding and training of new veterinarians.
  • Guide and develop lead veterinarians to mentor new hires, ensuring an outstanding onboarding and mentorship experience.
  • Achieve veterinary quality KPIs to support the facility, market, and practice objectives.
  • Facilitate the development of clinical skills and leadership competencies among veterinary professionals to provide high-quality medical care and exceptional client service.
  • In partnership with the Regional P&O Co-Pilot (POCP) and DVQ, identify and nurture future veterinary leaders within the organization.
  • Enhance veterinarian engagement and retention strategies in collaboration with DVQ, POCP, and operations to mitigate turnover risks and provide consistent support at the facility level.
  • Oversee medical equipment inventory and functionality in assigned facilities, managing requests for additional equipment in collaboration with the DVQ and Regional Vice President of Veterinary Quality (VPVQ).
  • Work alongside the Practice Manager (PM) to ensure proper maintenance and calibration of medical equipment in accordance with industry standards.
  • Engage actively in local, state, and national veterinary organizations to build relationships within the veterinary community, promoting Banfield's brand reputation.
  • Ensure that facility operations comply with all local, state, and federal regulations, including controlled substance management and radiation safety.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Potential for more than 40 hours per week to fulfill essential duties.

  • Physical capability to perform duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, and occasionally to anesthesia and other hazards.
  • Some travel may be required for facility assistance and educational purposes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree.
  • Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in small animal medicine and surgery.
