Position Overview


The Systems Engineering Project Specialist utilizes a comprehensive understanding of systems engineering principles to guide the engineering and design initiatives within the division, under the supervision of a Program Manager.

This role necessitates collaboration with other OTECH team members and clients to steer engineering efforts in alignment with client specifications.

The Systems Engineering Project Specialist will offer direction for engineering design activities through the creation of systems engineering documentation, which includes operational concepts, requirements specifications, interface control documents, hazard analyses, and testing plans and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY

  • Conducts analysis of user requirements, operational concepts, and high-level system architectures to formulate system requirements specifications.
  • Facilitates and executes system development and implementation planning through the traditional preparation of operational concepts, interface control documents, hazard analyses, and testing plans and procedures.
  • Leads and executes system development and implementation planning utilizing Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) methodologies, including requirement, structure, and behavior diagrams, simulations, and demonstrating traceability through elements.
  • Exhibits exceptional technical judgment, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to maintain a holistic view in system design.
  • Demonstrates a capacity for devising innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Reviews progress and assesses outcomes of work completed by self and team members.
  • Prepares reports and presents findings to management and clients.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in Systems Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in:


o Contributing to the creation of sections of systems engineering documentation, including engineering plans, initial capability documents, requirements specifications, and interface control documents.

o Managing system requirements and derived requirements to ensure the delivery of production systems that align with established system architectures, including Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) and SysML.

o Assisting in the formulation of system requirements, functional requirements, and their allocation to individual hardware, software, facility, and personnel components.

o Participating in the development of systems engineering documentation, including engineering plans, initial capability documents, requirements specifications, and interface control documents.

o Identifying system requirements and stakeholder needs, including functions that may be logically inferred and implied, as essential to system effectiveness.


  • Proficient knowledge of an SEDB tool (CRADLE, DOORS, etc.) and a SysML tool (Cameo).
  • 5 years of experience at the design engineering level.
  • Candidate must be able to perform in an ISO-9000 rated organization in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain security clearance.

TECHNICAL SKILLS
To succeed in this role, an individual should possess strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Proficient working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems; experience with Peoplesoft is preferred.

PREFERRED

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with the U.S. Department of Defense.
  • May be recognized for achievements, technical expertise, and professional standing within the selected field.
