About the Role

Oceaneering Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Project Software Engineer to join their team. As a key member of the OTECH group, this individual will play a crucial role in developing software solutions for cutting-edge underwater systems, primarily for US Navy and other US Government Department of Defense customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or contribute to software development efforts and proposals, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and company objectives.
  • Collaborate with engineering leads, program managers, and customers to identify and prioritize software development needs.
  • Develop and maintain software architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Contribute to project CDRLs (Contract Data Requirements Lists) and trade studies, providing technical expertise and recommendations.
  • Support software testing on various platforms, ensuring thorough validation and verification of software functionality.
  • Analyze user requirements and system architectures, identifying opportunities for process improvements and innovation.
  • Prepare system development and implementation plans, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
  • Present results to management and clients, effectively communicating technical information and project progress.
  • Occasionally work outside normal hours may be required to meet project deadlines and customer needs.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Python, or Java.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.
  • Able to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance, with a strong commitment to security and confidentiality.
  • A US citizen, with a valid passport and ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience in underwater vehicle or robotic software frameworks, with a strong understanding of system architecture and integration.
  • Knowledge of Linux OS or bare metal firmware, with the ability to design and implement efficient software solutions.
  • Experience with microprocessors and control systems, with a strong understanding of system-level design and development.
  • Ability to implement communication protocols and microservices, with a strong focus on scalability and reliability.
  • Experience with programming tools and UI/UX design, with a strong understanding of human-centered design principles.
  • Proficiency in setting up testing environments, with a strong focus on test-driven development and continuous integration.
  • Understanding of fiber optic communications and test equipment, with a strong understanding of system-level testing and validation.
