Principal Engineer in Medical Technology

Position Summary:
The Principal Engineer role is a strategic position within the Engineering group, focusing on driving growth initiatives in the Medical Division's expanding business segments. This role is pivotal in overseeing the product development lifecycle, particularly emphasizing the transition to manufacturing and successful product launches.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, modification, and implementation of single-use medical device components, ensuring compliance with established design control protocols and engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with customer technical teams to enhance existing products, utilizing innovative problem-solving techniques to meet customer needs and deliver exceptional value.
- Facilitate Design for Manufacturability by working closely with R&D and Operations Teams, ensuring effective design transfer processes.
- Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and risk assessments as integral parts of the design control process.
- Guide the technical development processes with internal manufacturing partners, addressing complex technical challenges using engineering and statistical methodologies.
- Engage with customers and suppliers regarding high-volume disposable medical component designs, continually assessing new technologies and methodologies.
- Oversee design modifications for existing products, ensuring compatibility through appropriate validation processes.
- Provide engineering support to production teams, focusing on product specifications and requirements.
- Support product development from conceptualization through various prototyping stages to final design, applying sound engineering principles.
- Demonstrate business acumen by translating customer needs into compelling value propositions supported by strong business cases.
- Act as a lead technical resource on project teams, collaborating with fellow engineers, customers, sales, and manufacturing on new product development initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Plastics, Biomedical) is required.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required.
- Experience in injection molding within a high-volume manufacturing environment is essential, with a preference for those with medical device manufacturing experience.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Solidworks preferred).
- Understanding of part design layout and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Familiarity with DFMEA and PFMEA methodologies is important.
- Experience in injection mold tooling design is preferred.
- Mold-flow analysis experience is advantageous.
- Ability to mentor and guide others based on technical expertise.
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving capabilities.
