Position Overview:
The Aircraft Structural Assembly Specialist is responsible for executing a range of assembly tasks, from routine to complex production operations. This role involves analyzing processes for potential improvements and may include overseeing the distribution of tasks and objectives, as well as providing guidance to technical support teams. Additionally, this position will assist in training new operators and conducting process evaluations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute various assembly tasks on structural components and subcomponents, both repetitive and non-repetitive in nature.
- Interpret diagrams and schematics, create initial layouts, and utilize hand and power tools, jigs, and saws effectively.
- Conduct continuity checks on work in progress and completed assemblies.
- Perform quality inspections on the production line in accordance with established quality standards.
- Disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble, and test experimental or prototype components as per specifications under simulated conditions.
- Adhere to approved assembly procedures for components or aircraft structures, referencing FAA-approved internal procedures, OEM technical data, and work package instructions.
- Position and align subassemblies in jigs or fixtures using measuring instruments, following blueprint guidelines and reference points.
- Inspect finished work to identify necessary rework before approval; ensure that repaired components meet required standards and tolerances.
- Conduct serviceability tests as needed, using specified test equipment outlined in technical manuals.
- Complete work package documentation in compliance with internal quality processes and FAA regulations.
- Submit completed work for Quality Assurance inspection and certification of airworthiness.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Proficient in drilling, riveting, and installing related hardware, as well as using precision instruments and hand tools.
- Familiarity with the fabrication of composite materials.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and specifications.
- Knowledge of paste and secondary bonded structures.
- Understanding of machines and tools, including their design, application, repair, and maintenance.
- Proficient in the use of air-powered hand tools and related equipment.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for optimizing manufacturing and distribution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of three years of experience in aircraft composite assembly, mechanical assembly, or aircraft structures, with the ability to utilize technical data and aircraft drawings effectively.
- Experience with A&P and mechanical tasks is advantageous.
Work Environment:
Ability to operate in a safe and professional manner, adhering to all regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, and other state and federal regulations. Flexibility to work varying hours and shifts as needed.
Compensation:
Joby offers a competitive compensation package that includes base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this role ranges from $26 to $38 per hour, determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with company matching, an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, and more.
