Job Summary

The Transportation Manager will be responsible for overseeing road transport staff, drivers, assets, and contractors, ensuring sustainable haulage activities that deliver optimal operational performance, high levels of safety, and customer satisfaction. This role requires frequent travel within the region and demands a keen sense of business, strong teamwork, and a solid work ethic.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Drive a positive ES&H culture throughout the road transport team, promoting safe working activities and conducting regular safety meetings.
  2. Conduct audits and attend EMR management safety meetings to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  3. Investigate incidents in cooperation with HR and ES&H to determine causes and improve safe practices.
  4. Oversee and promote excellent standards of customer service, actively encouraging feedback from the road transport team.
  5. Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve broader EMR policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  6. Manage staff and drivers, including recruitment, training, and HR functions.
  7. Optimize vehicle utilization, dispatching, routing, and tracking EMR vehicles and assets.
  8. Develop and maintain effective maintenance programs for all assets, including vehicles, trailers, and containers.
  9. Analyze expenditure, haulage recovery, and financial information to develop plans, policies, and budgets for cost control.
  10. Serve as a liaison to the commercial team, assisting with logistics operations and resolving customer complaints.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Familiarity with relevant ES&H legislation.
  • Proven track record of effective P&L and cost control management.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Current CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is beneficial.
Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or comparable work experience required. Minimum five years of road transport management experience, with previous management of a team of transport staff and assets across multiple sites.

Other Job Demands

This role requires frequent travel, working in an office environment, and exposure to production environments. The employee may be near moving mechanical parts and will be exposed to various weather conditions. The noise level can be loud, and ear protection may be necessary. The Transportation Manager will be required to operate a computer and other office devices.
