Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Oncology Nurse Coordinator to join our team at Duke University Hospital. As a key member of our multidisciplinary patient care team, you will provide individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to patients with cancer
  • Facilitate obtaining additional records, slides, and scans needed for new patient evaluations and return patients
  • Enter orders as directed by MD/APP, including labs and scans for follow-up visits
  • Coordinate outside labs/scans with other providers
  • Coordinate outside chemotherapy being given at home
  • Obtain all materials needed for new patients, such as outside lab/scan results and pathology for review
  • Ensure follow-up appointments are scheduled appropriately as requested
  • Assist with prior authorizations, as needed
  • Assist with insurance/family medical leave paperwork
  • Coordinate chemotherapy schedules
  • Review lab L/W order blood and electrolytes per protocol
  • Chemotherapy teaching and calendars in partnership with clinic pharmacists
  • Symptom management teaching
  • Triage of patients, calling patients back for issues that don't need direct APP/MD response
  • Assist with medication refills requests
  • Calling patients with negative or normal test results as directed by the APP/MD
Qualifications
  • BSN required
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Bone Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN) preferred
  • Four years' experience in an oncology setting
  • Must obtain an Oncology Nurse (OCN) within one year of hire
