Central Sterile Processing Supervisor

Job Summary:

OU Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Central Sterile Processing Supervisor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the processing, storage, and distribution of processed sterile supplies, instruments, equipment, and Case Carts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all central sterile processing activities, including cleaning, decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and reusable supply items.
  • Oversee the processing, storage, and distribution of processed sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor the surgery case schedule and conduct in-service education programs for staff members as necessary.
  • Schedule work and ensure instruments, equipment, and Case Carts are ready when needed.
  • Monitor the ordering process and supply management as it pertains to Case Cart stock, non-stock, surgery supplies, and materials management supplies.
  • Work with the coordinator to ensure smooth supply transitions.
  • Evaluate employee performance and make recommendations to improve performance.
  • Assess departmental processes and develop plans to improve processes as needed.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years of hospital experience in sterile processing, with a minimum of one year of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Central Processing Technician (CRCST) certification required from hire.
  • Secondary leadership certification, such as Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) or Certified in Sterile Processing Management, required within 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS) certification.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of maintenance and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable sanitation and hygiene standards.
  • Knowledge of proper safety practices of steam and gas plasma sterilization.
  • Knowledge of simple record-keeping principles and practices.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other medical staff, peers, and subordinates.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Skills in supervisory methods.
