Job Title:

Central Sterilization Technician Job Specialty:
Pediatric Sterile Processing Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night - 5x- 04:00 PM - 12:00 AM - 40 Hours per week
Guaranteed Hours: 40 Experience: Minimum six (6) months of related experience License: Technician certification from either the Certification Board for Sterilization and Processing (CBSPD) or the Healthcare Sterilization and Processing Association (HSPA) as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required Certifications: CRCST Must-Have: - Knowledge of maintenance and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment- Knowledge of applicable sanitation and hygiene standards- Knowledge of proper safety practices of steam and gas plasma sterilization- Knowledge of simple record-keeping principles and practices- Effective customer service skills- Good computer skills- Ability to work effectively under pressure

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for cleaning, decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and reusable supply items
  • Coordinate and prepare necessary supplies and instruments for emergent and routine surgical cases
  • Assemble and wrap instrument sets
  • Ensure proper use of sterilized sonic cleaners and other related equipment
  • Retrieve and deliver surgical instruments on a timely basis
  • Thoroughly inspect instruments to ensure cleanliness and good repair/working order prior to sterilization process
  • Decontaminate instruments using proper chemical mixtures and procedures
  • Test, operate, and load autoclaves
  • Participate in the routine cleaning and decontamination of all department work surfaces
  • Complete sterilization log sheets
  • Periodically check sterile inventory to remove expired items or compromised packaging
  • Re-sterilize compromised instrument sets
  • Identify and notify appropriate personnel of inventory or supply shortages
  • May assist in training new staff
  • Perform tasks to prepare and maintain accurate Case Carts
  • Pull needed supplies and instruments for cases
  • Coordinate with operating room staff to ensure delivery of proper supplies for each case
  • Maintain optimal levels of patient care surgical supplies and/or equipment
  • Practice good inventory control techniques
