Job Title: Positive Behavior Support Technician

Volunteers of America Mid-States is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating positive change in the lives of individuals and communities. We provide a range of services, including housing, care, and support for individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, and other challenges.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Positive Behavior Support Technician to join our team. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will work closely with individuals with intellectual disabilities and significant behavioral challenges to provide training, assistance, and support. Your primary responsibility will be to implement plans and training throughout crises and respond to behaviors utilizing positive behavior supports.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide training, assistance, and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities and significant behavioral challenges.
  • Implement plans and training throughout crises and respond to behaviors utilizing positive behavior supports.
  • Assist individuals in expanding their opportunities to participate in community life as they choose.
  • Teach meaningful daily living skills that increase independence, recreation, and socialization in the life of the individuals we support.
  • Advocate for the needs, interests, and support of the person in your care.
  • Complete all required documentation, including daily support notes, charting, behavior data collection, etc.
  • Attend and be an active participant in scheduled meetings and trainings.
  • Provide communication regarding individual, home, or work-related needs to supervisor/nurse/Behavior Consultant (BC) in a timely manner.
  • Assist with personal care as required.
  • Pass medications per physician's orders, as trained by VOA nurse, and notify the supervisor of any medication issues or medication errors.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Complete safety drills and Emergency Preparedness activities as scheduled.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities with behavioral needs and mental health conditions.
  • Valid Drivers License and Auto Insurance.
  • Experience providing care; toileting, bathing, etc. preferred.
  • Previous experience working with clients with high behaviors preferred.
