Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Loan Specialist to join our team at Communities Unlimited, Inc. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in credit and lending, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and service consumer loans, interviewing applicants to determine eligibility and repayment capacity.
  • Evaluate loan applications and creditworthiness, monitoring loan payments and providing customer service to ensure borrower needs are met.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records, adhering to organizational, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Provide onsite marketing and technical assistance services to Colonias communities to promote Nuestra Casa Small Dollar Loan Program.
  • Research, assist, and communicate with local communities, establishing and maintaining complete community project files.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required; minimum of an associate degree in accounting, business, or related field and at least 1 year of experience underwriting and/or servicing loans.
  • English/Spanish bilingual required; ability to communicate with residents of the Colonias.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for travel to office located in Brownsville, TX.
  • Ability to work independently, organize, and prioritize work; process paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  • Effective communication in both written and verbal formats; thorough knowledge of the collections process in compliance with the Fair Debt Collections Practice Act and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Regulation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a leadership position in non-profit or community-based work.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of credit, lending concepts, and practices.
  • Ability to underwrite loans for home improvement, including processing applications, obtaining required documents, and preparing and maintaining files.
