Position Overview


Under the guidance of the Food Service Department supervisor or appointed representative, and following the instructions of a Food Service Lead I and/or Lead II, this role involves supporting the procurement, reception, storage, preparation, distribution, and sale of food in various settings including cafeterias, snack bars, mobile carts, or other designated areas for breakfast and lunch services, a la carte offerings, and catering events.

Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness of kitchen equipment and serving utensils, along with performing related tasks as necessary. The position also entails assisting in the completion of daily records associated with food preparation and service.

Additionally, the role requires support in maintaining all essential Hazard Analysis at Critical Control Points (HACCP) temperature logs, inspection records, and related documentation.

May involve cash handling and reconciliation duties.

All responsibilities are executed while adhering to HACCP and Serve Safe standards, as well as state and local health regulations, and district policies, in alignment with the district's objectives.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the procurement and reception of food and supplies.
  • Completes HACCP-related tasks as assigned.
  • Participates in all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Reports any unsafe working conditions to the Lead.
  • Assists in determining and notifying student meal eligibility.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Understanding of commercial food preparation methods.
  • Knowledge of sanitation principles applicable in a commercial kitchen.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn basic cooking, baking, service, and cashiering tasks.
  • Capable of operating standard commercial kitchen food preparation equipment.
  • Proficient in reading and writing in English at a level necessary for job performance.
  • Ability to comprehend and execute both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, demanding service environment while maintaining composure and customer service standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and others encountered during job duties.

  • Visual acuity to read printed materials.
  • Adequate hearing to engage in conversations in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and audibly in normal conversations and on the phone.
  • Capacity to exert up to 50 pounds of force to push, pull, drag, lift, or otherwise move objects.
  • This role necessitates frequent and continuous standing, walking, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, and reaching overhead for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility to grasp and manipulate small objects, navigate the work area, and transition between different work locations.
  • Employees in this role typically work in a standard commercial kitchen environment.
