Job Overview

Position: Traveling Fiber Optic Testing Specialist

Employment Type: Full-time W2 - Fiber Technician

Work Location: This is a traveling position across various locations.

Salary: $35 - $45 per hour, with a daily hotel per diem of $100. Additional per diem for tools and vehicle usage based on the equipment provided.

Note: Candidates must possess valid US work authorization; visa sponsorship is not available.

Essential Qualifications
  • Prior experience in telecommunications or a related field is essential; training will not be provided.
  • Must supply a personal work vehicle, such as a truck, van, or large SUV.
Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough fiber characterization, including:
    • Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD)
    • Chromatic Dispersion (CD)
    • Attenuation Profile (AP)
    • Optical Return Loss (ORL)
    • Other OTDR functions as required.
  • Maintain and update work logs and maintenance records using company systems.
  • Plan and prepare for jobs, determining necessary materials and resources.
  • Interpret work orders, wiring diagrams, and equipment schematics while adhering to industry standards.
  • Be available for varying shifts, including potential overtime, weekends, and holidays.
General Duties

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reading and interpreting fiber characteristics and ensuring safe operation of testing equipment.
  • Possessing a valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Traveling between central office locations as required.
  • Working at heights using extension ladders and accessing manholes.
  • Identifying and repairing fiber optic splices.
Required Experience
  • Testing experience with ROADM or IOF fibers.
  • Ability to diagnose fiber issues and perform routine testing, including using a Fusion Splicer and OTDR.
  • Experience working with live fiber.
  • Familiarity with reading Fiber MDF in Central Offices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
