Job Title: Battery Algorithms and Controls Engineer

At Ford Motor Company, we are seeking a highly skilled Battery Algorithms and Controls Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced battery management systems for our next-generation vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and validate battery state estimation and control algorithms for lithium-ion battery management systems.
  • Develop and maintain battery models using electrical and physics-based modeling approaches.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate battery algorithms and controls into vehicle systems.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts to identify and resolve algorithm-related issues.
  • Stay current with industry and research advancements in battery science and translate cutting-edge research into BMS functionality enhancements.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years developing BMS algorithms for automotive or mission-critical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of lithium-ion battery cell (LFP, NCA, and NMC) and pack design technologies.
  • Experience developing control algorithms in embedded C.
  • Experience modeling lithium-ion batteries with equivalent-circuit and physics-based methods.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and similar tools for battery equivalent-circuit and physics-based modeling.
  • Theoretical expertise in probability and statistics.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Solid theoretical foundation in adaptive filtering, digital signal processing, and control theory.
  • Hands-on experience in defining, formulating, and implementing machine learning problems for BMS applications.
  • Understanding of real-time systems and common microcontroller architectures & peripherals.
  • Familiarity with automotive safety standards (e.g. ISO26262) and how they apply to hardware and software.
