We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Animal Control Officer to join our team at the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County. As an Animal Control Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing animal control laws and ordinances, responding to calls for assistance, and providing animal care services to the community.
Key Responsibilities- Enforce animal control laws and ordinances, issue citations, and collect evidence.
- Respond to calls for assistance, including animal bites, animal cruelty, and other animal-related incidents.
- Provide animal care services, including rescuing animals, impounding stray animals, and investigating animal-related complaints.
- Communicate with other law enforcement agencies, work with prosecuting attorneys, and testify in court.
- Perform routine keyboard/computer operations, complete intake and care reports, and maintain daily log sheets and inventories.
- May conduct or assist with outreach and liaison programs, addressing groups and organizations on animal control and related issues.
- High school diploma required.
- Requires 1-2 years of professional animal care or animal control experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Must be a Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician (CAET), or obtain certification within six months of hire.
- Valid class "D" driver's license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
- Must receive pre-exposure rabies vaccinations.
- Medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, and exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and reoccurring basis, including restraint of animals of varying size, age, and physical condition.
- Must use protective clothing or gear.
- May risk exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals, and animals/wildlife, including exposure to animal bites, scratches, and diseases such as Rabies, Ringworm, Lyme disease and Zoonosis.
- Full-time, Civil Service positions - 10 Vacation Days per year (increasing after 5 years of service), 1 Sick Day per month, 12 Paid Holidays per year.
- Public Safety - Sworn and Civilian positions - 20 vacation days per year, 3 Personal days per year, 1 Sick Day per month, 12 paid holidays per year.
