Job Title: Controller

University School of Nashville is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records and reports.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate General Ledger and Sub Ledgers for all funds in accordance with GAAP and USN operating policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and review payroll, cash disbursements, and fixed assets.
  • Prepare and review month-end and fiscal year-end close procedures, including journal entries, account reconciliations, external/internal financial reporting, and tax filings.
  • Support the completion of the annual audit by an external accounting firm and Form 990, preparing and providing supporting documentation as requested/necessary, and ensuring final reports tie to internal school accounting records.
  • Prepare monthly internal budget reports for all budget managers, identifying potential budget issues for the CFO/Director/Budget Manager.
  • Prepare, review, file, and maintain all reports/forms as required by Federal/State Government, including 990, 5500, 941, W-3, W-2s, 1096, 1099s, Sales Tax, Unemployment, Business Licenses, State and Local Property Tax, and others as identified.
  • Supply, prepare, and analyze statistical data for organizations like INDEX, NAIS, and MISBO.
  • Coordinate and prepare risk management for the school, including renewals, claims, definition of coverage, and other documents as needed in conjunction with Insurance Agents, Providers, and Carriers.
  • Support day-to-day operations of the Business Office, including A/P, A/R, and Cash Receipts (including Development Office Gifts being properly recorded in school accounting records and reconciliation of same with Development Office on a regular basis), Payroll, HR, Budget, USNA, and General school affairs, as well as greeting visitors in the office, covering for associates away from desk or out of office.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • B.S. (minimum) with emphasis in Business Administration and Accounting.
  • Prior work in an Accounting Department of a business (Not-for-Profit experience would be helpful, but not required).
  • Solid computer knowledge of business systems accounting software, as well as third-party providers of other computer modules currently in place or added as necessary.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting for non-profits and tax regulations.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Communicate thoroughly, accurately, and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Good organization skills with attention to detail.
