Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Animal Control Officer to join our team at the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County. As an Animal Control Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing animal control laws and ordinances, responding to calls for assistance, and providing animal welfare services to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas to enforce animal control laws and ordinances
  • Respond to calls for assistance, including animal bites and cruelty complaints
  • Investigate allegations of animal cruelty and other animal-related complaints
  • Apprehend and impound stray, unlicensed, vicious, feral, and sick animals
  • Enforce animal control laws and ordinances, issue citations, and collect evidence
  • Communicate with other law enforcement agencies and work with prosecuting attorneys
  • Perform routine keyboard/computer operations and maintain records
  • May conduct outreach and liaison programs and provide training as needed
Requirements
  • High school diploma required
  • 1-2 years of professional animal care or animal control experience
  • Must be a Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician (CAET) or obtain certification within six months of hire
  • Valid class "D" driver's license and personal vehicle insurance
  • Pre-exposure rabies vaccinations
Working Environment

This is a medium to heavy work position that involves walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, and exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and reoccurring basis. You must use protective clothing or gear and may risk exposure to toxic and caustic chemicals, and animals/wildlife.

Benefits

Full-time, Civil Service positions offer 10 vacation days per year, 1 sick day per month, and 12 paid holidays per year. Public Safety positions offer 20 vacation days per year, 3 personal days per year, and 1 sick day per month.
