Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Associate Director to join our team at the Center for Inherited Muscle Research. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for leading and developing research projects that align with our mission to improve the lives of Virginians affected by muscular dystrophy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research Leadership: Provide strategic direction and oversight for research projects focused on muscular dystrophy, including natural history studies, clinical outcome development, and clinical trial design and conduct.
  • Teaching and Mentoring: Train and mentor clinical and pre-clinical residents, fellows, and other trainees in the field of muscular dystrophy research.
  • Service and Collaboration: Serve as a member of departmental and university-wide service committees, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to foster the development of novel therapeutics for muscular dystrophy.
  • Clinical Participation: Participate in the Muscular Dystrophy Association multidisciplinary clinic and contribute to the development of clinical trials and research studies.
Requirements
  • Education: MD or equivalent degree, with a minimum of 4 years of extensive experience in muscular dystrophy research.
  • Certifications: Board certification or eligibility in Neurology.
  • Experience: Proven experience in multicenter clinical research, outcome measure development, and clinical trials in muscular dystrophy.
  • Publication Record: A strong publication record in genetic nerve and muscle disorders.
  • Collaboration and Diversity: Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Matrix Environment Experience: Experience working in a matrix environment within academic medicine.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Proven success in collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
