Position Overview

Role Summary: Surgical Solutions Technicians are vital members of the surgical team, providing essential support to surgeons and operating room personnel. They are dedicated to delivering exceptional service while assisting in the daily functions and procedures within their designated facility. This role reports to Account Supervisors or Lead Technicians.

Key Responsibilities


• In the Operating Room, the Technician will:

○ Exhibit exemplary performance standards to colleagues and peers.

○ Comprehend the procedures being conducted and anticipate the requirements of surgeons, ensuring outstanding service during operations.

○ Maintain the integrity of the sterile environment.

○ Showcase proficiency in:

■ Pre-operative preparations:

o Verify functionality of video equipment.

o Arrange monitors and instruments according to surgeon preferences.

o Open supplies while preserving the sterile field.

■ Intra-operative technical and customer assistance:

o Ensure all necessary equipment is operational.

o Address supply requests and issues promptly.

o Provide necessary support throughout the procedure.

■ Post-operative room turnover:

o Collect and dispose of waste, disassemble tables as required, and clean the room.

o Gather instruments and equipment for inventory.

o Ensure all instruments and equipment are in proper working condition.

o Assist OR staff to facilitate efficient room turnover.

■ Equipment Maintenance and Repair Management:

o Identify damaged or worn instruments for repair or replacement.

o Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and coordinate with repair vendors.

○ Uphold rigorous standards for decontamination, inspection, assembly, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments.

○ Oversee maintenance of laparoscopic equipment and manage repairs as necessary.

○ Keep current preference cards for surgeons updated.

○ Maintain professionalism in service, behavior, and communication with Surgical Solutions team members and hospital staff.


• General Responsibilities:

o Collaborate closely with endoscopy technicians, nurses, and surgeons to ensure availability of preferred instruments for all procedures.

o Facilitate smooth transitions between surgeons in the operating room.

o As part of Surgical Solutions:

■ Foster collaboration with team members and hospital staff, treating all with respect and dignity.

■ Deliver exceptional service as a representative of the company.


• Credentialing Maintenance:

o Obtain and maintain CRCST Certification; support for certification will be provided.

o Complete necessary documentation for medical clearance from the hospital.

o Participate in annual training and competency assessments.

o Maintain organized records of credentialing requirements.


• Responsibilities related to Surgical Cost Management Platform (SCMP):

○ Log in daily to SCMP to review scheduled cases and assignments.

○ Utilize SCMP to access digital Preference Cards and notify site leads of necessary revisions.

○ Create emergency/add-on cases as required.

○ Communicate with team leads regarding case updates at the start and end of shifts.

○ Report any missing critical data in SCMP to site leads.

○ Embrace and utilize new technology as outlined in the Technology Policy.

Skills and Qualifications


• Reliable on-site attendance is essential. Punctuality and dependability are crucial to meet the needs of colleagues and hospital schedules.


• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, is required. This position typically involves a 40-hour workweek, with additional hours as needed.


• Strong organizational skills, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.


• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with diverse individuals and groups.


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.


• Effective communication skills for interaction with customers and healthcare professionals.


• Physical requirements include the ability to maneuver in tight spaces, lift up to 50 pounds, and maintain a full range of motion.


• Education: High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred.


• Certifications: CRCST certification required within 90 days of employment; CST certification is a plus.


• Previous experience in an operating room setting is preferred, along with customer service experience.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
