Position Overview

Role Summary: Surgical Solutions Technicians are essential members of the surgical team, providing critical support to surgeons and operating room personnel. They are dedicated to delivering exceptional service while assisting in the daily functions and procedures within their designated facilities. This role reports to Account Supervisors or Lead Technicians.

Key Responsibilities


• In the Operating Room, the Technician will:

○ Exhibit exemplary performance standards to colleagues and peers.

○ Comprehend the procedures being conducted and proactively anticipate the requirements of surgeons, ensuring optimal service to the team during operations.

○ Maintain the integrity of the sterile environment.

○ Demonstrate proficiency in:

■ Pre-operative preparations:

o Verify functionality of video equipment.

o Arrange monitors and tools per the surgeon's specifications.

o Unpack supplies while preserving the sterile field.

■ Intra-operative technical and customer assistance:

o Ensure all necessary equipment is operational.

o Address supply-related inquiries and requests.

o Provide support throughout the procedure as required.

■ Post-operative cleanup:

o Collect and dispose of waste, disassemble tables as necessary, and clean the room as needed.

o Collect instruments and equipment.

o Conduct inventory checks on instruments and ensure all items are functional.

o Assist OR staff to facilitate efficient turnover.

■ Equipment Maintenance and Repair Oversight:

o Identify damaged or worn instruments for repair or replacement.

o Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and coordinate with repair vendors for loaner instruments.

○ Uphold rigorous standards for decontamination, inspection, assembly, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical tools.

○ Manage all laparoscopic equipment and initiate repairs as necessary; oversee instrument and scope maintenance.

○ Keep current preference cards for surgeons updated.

○ Maintain professionalism in service, conduct, and communication with Surgical Solutions team members and hospital staff.


• General Duties:

o Within the hospital,

 Collaborate closely with endoscopy technicians, nurses, and surgeons to ensure each surgeon has access to their preferred equipment for all procedures.

 Facilitate smooth transitions between surgeons in the operating room.

o As part of Surgical Solutions,

■ Foster collaboration with team members and hospital staff, treating all individuals with respect and dignity.

■ Deliver outstanding customer service as a representative of the company.


• Credentialing Responsibilities:

o Obtain and maintain CRCST Certification, with support provided by Surgical Solutions for certification upkeep.

o Complete necessary documentation for medical clearance from the hospital.

o Fulfill annual training and competency requirements.

o Keep organized records of medical and credentialing requirements.


• Responsibilities Related to Surgical Cost Management Platform (SCMP):

○ Log into SCMP daily to monitor scheduled cases, your assignments, and update case statuses in real-time.

○ Utilize SCMP to review digital Preference Cards and notify your site lead of any required revisions.

○ Create emergency or add-on cases for your team lead as needed.

○ Communicate with your team lead at the start and end of each shift to discuss case updates and any changes.

○ Report any missing critical data in SCMP to your site lead for resolution.

○ Learn and effectively use new technologies as outlined in the Technology Policy, seeking assistance when necessary.

Skills and Qualifications


• Consistent on-site attendance is mandatory, with punctuality being crucial to meet the needs of colleagues and hospital schedules.


• Availability to work on a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays, with a typical 40-hour workweek and potential additional hours based on operational needs.


• Strong organizational skills, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations. Capable of collecting, organizing, and analyzing information, with clear communication skills in both verbal and written forms.


• Interpersonal skills sufficient for effective interaction with diverse individuals and groups. Ability to establish rapport with clients and team members while maintaining professionalism.


• Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, treating others with respect and dignity.


• Effective communication skills for interaction with customers, hospital staff, and healthcare professionals, with the ability to comprehend technical materials and follow instructions.


• Physical capabilities include the ability to maneuver in tight spaces, lift and carry items up to 50 pounds, and maintain a full range of motion for effective care delivery.


• Educational Requirements: High school diploma or GED required; some college education preferred.

• Certifications: CRCST certification required for certified states or must obtain within 90 days for non-certified states. CST certification is a plus.

• Previous Experience: Preferred one year of OR experience and 2-5 years of customer service experience.

• Proficient in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

• Must be available for 24/7 hospital coverage, including rotational and on-call shifts.
