Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Safety Communications Officer to join our team at the City of Schertz. As a key member of our 911 Communications Center, you will be responsible for dispatching police, fire, and EMS personnel, processing emergency and non-emergency calls, and providing critical information and assistance to callers.

Key Responsibilities:

Dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for service, obtaining necessary information from callers to provide pre/post arrival instructions for medical, fire, and police emergencies.
Operate and maintain various types of communications equipment, including computer-aided dispatching systems and emergency radio systems.
Access and operate multiple confidential databases and programs to process information.
Maintain contact with City personnel and outside agencies during times of emergency, coordinating mutual aid to neighboring fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies.
Update and maintain contact information and lists for City departments, various police divisions, and other local community emergency services.
Monitor and operate multiple job-related software programs on various computers, including CAD and a multiline non-emergency and 9-1-1 phone system.
Assist in routine testing and maintenance of equipment, including computers, radios, and various communications devices.
Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:

A High School Diploma or GED is required.
A minimum of 18 years of age is required.
One year of experience in an emergency dispatch center or closely related experience in fields such as customer service, call centers, or fast-paced work environments is preferred.
Must pass a skills test, including an acceptable working knowledge of computer operations, data entry, and decision-making.
Must possess a valid Texas Driver's license.
Must obtain Licensed Public Safety Telecommunications from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement within one year of employment.
Must obtain TCIC/NCIC certification from the Texas Department of Public Safety within six months of employment.
Must obtain CPR certification within one year of employment.
Must obtain Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification within one year of employment.
Must be a U.S. citizen at time of hire.

The successful candidate must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, and must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
