Research Scientist Staff Engineer

As a Staff Engineer – Research Scientist at Jacobs, you will be part of a team dedicated to advancing innovative research that drives cutting-edge solutions for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Our team is committed to pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge and engineering expertise to meet the complex challenges of the ocean and land operational environment.
The Acoustics Division at NRL is a hub for basic and applied research, focusing on the physics of acoustic signal generation, propagation, scatter, and detection. We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to support our efforts in capturing environmental carbon, hydrogen production and storage, and the production of fuels and materials by thermochemical, electrochemical, and plasma processes.
Responsibilities:- Design and evaluate chemical systems for hydrogenation of CO2 to syngas, including electrochemical, thermochemical, and plasma systems.
- Develop and characterize stable catalyst materials capable of catalyzing CO2 derived intermediates to aromatics products.
- Perform catalyst synthesis, analytical characterization of catalyst, and catalyst efficiency evaluation.
- Direct air capture of CO2 and direct ocean capture of CO2.
- Conduct computational modeling of catalyst environments to elucidate mechanistic pathways and guide experimental design.
- Utilize computational modeling to guide experimental design of electrochemical systems, including fluid dynamics, transport of ionic species, and reaction intermediates.
- Apply engineering design, fabrication, and evaluation of systems, as well as utilize CAD programs.
- Scale, integrate, and automate complex system components.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Ability to obtain Secret Clearance.
- PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, biomechanical engineering, or material science.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience.
