Position: 988 Call Center Counselor
The 988 Crisis Call Center at Community Care Alliance is seeking dedicated professionals committed to enhancing the well-being of individuals within the Rhode Island community. This center serves as a vital resource for those in mental health and substance use emergencies, responding to calls, chats, and texts from individuals in distress.
As part of the BH Link network, the 988 Crisis Counselors play a crucial role in facilitating access to in-person services at the state's behavioral health crisis center. Counselors will work closely with an experienced clinical team to provide comprehensive assessments and referrals. The center also collaborates with local mobile crisis teams, ensuring that support is available in the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate on-site at the 988 Call Center.
- Respond to incoming calls, chats, and texts through the 988 Lifeline and other communication lines.
- Establish rapport with callers using empathy and professionalism.
- Conduct risk assessments for suicidality and other safety concerns.
- Coordinate wellness checks and mobile crisis responses as needed.
- Provide resource and referral information to callers.
- Complete necessary documentation and data collection promptly.
- Collaborate with the BH Link clinical team and local emergency services.
- Document critical incidents and notify supervisors as required.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
Essential Skills:
- Ability to handle crisis communications with empathy and calmness.
- Skill in multitasking and adapting to varying call volumes.
- Willingness to receive supervision and feedback for professional growth.
- Strong communication skills for effective care coordination.
- Proficiency in navigating digital platforms and databases.
- Multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-3 years of experience in human services preferred.
- Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
