About the Job

At Vets Hired, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Animal Services Counselor to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, where you will be responsible for supervising a team of animal services staff and ensuring the smooth operation of our animal intake and outcome processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and train animal services staff, including assisting customers seeking to adopt animals, overseeing animal intakes and outcomes, and coordinating community outreach and adoption events.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the work of others engaged in intake and outcome processes, including animal handling, marketing efforts, and computer updates.
  • Interview and select new employees, prepare and review performance evaluations, and counsel employees regarding denial of adoptions.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with the public, adoption partners, and other governmental agencies, and work effectively under stressful situations.
  • Operate a variety of basic information technology office desktop appliances, programs, systems, and applications.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience in a public or non-profit animal services program, including responsibility for serving in a customer service capacity, caring for, licensing, and pet support for clients, intake and outcome programs.
  • One year of the required experience must be in an Animal Services Counselor position or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • Ability to work irregular schedules, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Principles and techniques of supervision related to the selection, training, direction, motivation, and evaluation of subordinates.
  • State and county laws, codes, and regulations governing animal control.
  • Legal liabilities and responsibilities of those concerned with the intake and outcome processes of shelter animals.
  • Animal handling safety rules, procedures, and proper handling techniques.
